Ladies and Gentlemen, dear friends of the Brockhaus / Antiquarium

By popular demand, my quiz will from now on be bi-lingual. And what could be more fitting than to dedicate the first of these quizzes to female travellers. At first glance, travel and exploration may be thought to be a male occupation. But there have always been women “on the road” as well. Be they pilgrims to the Holy Land, or later, self-reliant explorers like Gertrude Bell, or artists like Maria Sibylla Merian. Companions, like Florence Baker, were often present but seldom mentioned.To these brave women I would like to dedicate this quiz. They saw and described the world from a different point of view. And my questions may allow us a different look at their lives. The prize this time is a picture postcard hand signed by another adventuress, Leni Riefenstahl.
